A consultation with a veterinarian or veterinary technician examining your pet’s body condition is the way to determine whether or not your pet is overweight. Our team will determine your pet’s body condition score during his appointment with us.
More precisely, using the body condition score (BCS) is the best way to know whether or not your pet is overweight. It is a scale measured from 1-5 used to determine whether an animal is underweight or overweight. 1 is considered extremely underweight, whereas 5 is considered obese. It works both by touch and sight and therefore gives a better indication of your pet’s overall health than taking his weight alone.
To protect your pet’s general health, it is better to only feed your cat and your dog with food that is made specifically for them. Pets have opposite diet requirements from us and even thought some food can be tolerated, it is always best concentrate on foods that are meant for your companion.
